Matt began teaching drums and percussion while pursuing his Bachelor's degree at the University of Nevada Reno. His first gig was teaching private lessons and group classes for McQueen High School's music program. Upon graduating with his Bachelor's degree in Percussion Matt returned to the music department at UNR as an adjunct faculty member. He taught courses in Music Fundamentals and Music Appreciation, Jazz History, private lessons for undergraduate students, and small jazz ensembles. Now in the Los Angeles area, Matt maintains his own private studio and is currently teaching at the Academy of Creative Education. As an MFA student at Cal Arts he taught drumset lessons for non-majors and was a representative of the Community Arts Partnership (CAP), a program that links Cal Arts and the diverse communities of Los Angeles County through free, after-school and school-based arts programs for youth. He has also taught at the University of California San Diego Summer Jazz Camp and performed in master classes at the University of Southern California and New York University.
